Sometimes people are too suspicious. My friend and I decided to buy a whole pile of cheap flowers to give out to people, but so many people just stared or laughed at us. Or ignored us. However, I know this is unlikely, but if the guy who bought us more flowers reads this - we totally love you! And you could just be in this community.

6:37 pm - Link: Tree Sweater.

For the list of Coolest Things Ever: Erika, a blogger, had the urge to knit a cute little sweater for a sad urban tree, complete with a sleeve for a branch. A photograph of the tree sweater has since appeared on the cover of a newspaper, and the sweater has survived a pruning. Erika has supplied a pattern for this knitting project, and envisions a mass treesweatering project among many knitters this next April's Arbor Day. Sound like fun?

11:10 am - Birthday Request

Hi all! My best friend is a great guy & it was recently his birthday. But he is in bootcamp (Navy) right now and we cant celebrate with him. I'm wanting to get a ton of people to wish him a happy birthday on my journal. I know none of you know him - but - if you could go to my main journal (xanthia444)and make a comment on the most recent entry for him, I'd appreciate it!

I'm trying to lift his spirits so I'm going to print it out and send it to him. Thank you in advance for those of you that do it!

A good friend of mine is a licensed scuba diver, and he's planning on joining the coast guard. Since he enjoys the ocean so much and he's leaving pretty soon, I ordered a bag of aquamarine stones - aquamarine is the gemstone that is representative of Pisces, which is his zodiac sign, and it's also said to protect it's wearer while they're traveling on water. I gave him the aquamarine and a CD I made for him as sort of a graduation/late birthday/you're a good friend and I'm going to miss you present. I thought the aquamarine might be a little out there, and that he might wonder what in the world I was talking about with all this gemstone crap, but he seemed to really appreciate the gesture. I just hope this lets him know how much I'm going to miss him and that I hope he is safe while he's out there.

I guess this probably isn't the right community for this, but I thought you all might enjoy it anyway. I'm a senior in college, and I wanted to tell a few of my professors how much I really appreciate what they do. I wanted it to be anonymous, though; I didn't want them to think I was sucking up to get a good grade or something. So I made a few duct tape roses and attached a little note with a message written with that professor in mind. You know, "your dedication makes you an inspiration to your students," etc. I snuck around this evening and left them outside the offices. I sort of hope they'll mention it in class tomorrow, just so I can hear their reactions. :) Here are a couple of pictures.Collapse )

5:43 am - Glamour Bomb Idea -- Cheese Weasel Day

This was to be posted to Glamour Bombs, but I see the community was deleted! (So I just created a community to relace it glamour_bombs... Consider this an announcement.)

In the meantime, as this is time-sensitive, I'll post it here. (And besides, you can always do this bomb on someone you know, which is what happened to start the whole holiday.)

I didn't make this one up, but hopefully it'll cause as much joy for others as it has for my friends and I...

Who brings the cheese on April 3rd?
The Cheese Weasel
He's not a silly bunny or a reindeer or a bird,
He's the Cheese Weasel
He's got a cute black tail
And tiny buck teeth
He doesn't bring fish, and he
Doesn't bring beef
So you'd better be good if you wanna get some cheese
From the Cheese Weasel.

Here's a link to the explanation of the Cheese Weasel's origins.

Have fun with it! See that the Cheese Weasel makes plenty of stops today!

One thing I like to do from time to time is collect peoples old suitcases and duffle bags that they no longer use. I then donate them to a foster care agency I found a few years ago. Children in foster care usually take all of their belongings to their new homes when placed in trash bags. I think that is horrible. So I donate as many suitcases and duffle bags as I can... so they have something to take their things in. :-)

i work in a grocery store, and one of our most regular customers is the grandmother of a boy i went to school with. this guy and i attended school together from kindergarden all the way through high school, and we used to play together a lot when we were little. so now everytime i see his grandmother, she hugs me and tells me how nice it is to see me.

she's a sweet little lady, although very unhealthy, and rather sad. her grandson has gotten involved with some not -so-nice people, and has gotten in trouble (often) for selling drugs, etc. she loves him to death, regardless of what he does, and he very rarely calls her or spends time with her. the last time i saw her, i asked how he was doing, and she got a really wistful look on her face, and said it had been a few weeks since she'd heard from him. she changed the subject to the carnations we had for sale; i was working in the floral department that day.

she went on and continued her shopping, and i went over to the cash register and paid for a bouquet of the carnations she had liked, and gave them to her as she was leaving. she was so surprised and pleased that she hugged me, and cried for a good five minutes. it was good to know that i'd made her happy, even if it were just for a few moments.

12:48 am - just hold my hand, i think that would help

i've spent all night making cards. mostly to slide under everyone's door before i leave super early friday morning thanking them for being who they are and wishing them good luck with their finals. i made an extra special card for my friend jess cause her birthday is the day i leave, and she mentioned a few minutes ago that she was in the worst mood ever and stressed about chemistry, so i told her to hold on & hopped on over their to give her the card & a few minutes later she came to my room crying to give me a hug. and it's hard sometimes cause i have anxiety about letting people know how much they matter to me, but it's so worth it when you know you've put a smile on someone's face. and sometimes i feel so out of place & outdated because i could seriously live my entire life this way.

2:59 pm - spread some love

hello and welcome to get better bears! i'm kristen and i'll be your moderator.

while i can glamourbomb with ease, i often find it more difficult to share sparkles and kind words with people that i really know. however, lately i have been trying to combat this and make a conscious effort to cheer up the people around me. i figured it might be a good idea to list some of the activities i've done recently.

before the chem midterm, i cut out construction paper four leaf clovers and wrote "good luck (name)" and decorated them with glitter. i then put them on the doors of all the people in my hallway that i knew were studying and stressing out over the exam, even those that i was on awkward terms with.

one of my close friends suffered a loss and while i usually have trouble fighting for the right words to say, i chose instead to let some pictures speak for me and made him a photocollage to remind him how much he means to me and that while life doesn't always make sense, good friends help get you through it.

i guess those should suffice for now. i'd love to hear any suggestions or stories that you have, and hope that this community is a good experience for everyone. xoxo.
